I joined Ensemble to get feedback on the NaNoWriMo story I'm working on as I write it. But when I copy and paste bits of text from Word into Ensemble, the formatting gets all screwy. Even when I try to adjust it inside of Manage Story, I get no results. Is there something I'm not doing, or can the site just not support formatting?
Thanks!

Hey Shaicotten,
Could you describe what kind of formatting you're trying to achieve? Also, if you could paste a link to your story, it might help us see what you're trying to do exactly. Then I can see if there's anything I can do to make the formatting easier.
Thanks!

ensemble.stanford.edu/stories/ravage-chapter-oneI write my story in Word, in normal story format - left alignment, single spacing, tabs at the beginning of each paragraph. When I copy and paste my story into Ensemble, I lose all of my paragraphs. They become one long column of text. I understand that this is a format that websites sometimes can't accommodate for, so I attempted to fix the problem by putting a hard "return" or "enter" in between each paragraph to make it more readable. But this has no apparent effect on the text, when viewed after publishing. I've been trying to take advantage of the grey text boxes that sometimes appear when you put a certain number of returns or enters between paragraphs. But the usage of these are kind of temperamental. I can't figure them out. Thanks for the help!

Ah, yes -- so a couple things that might help clarify what's going on:
- The Ensemble story editor implements a commonly-used formatting system called Markdown. It's similar to BBCode and other formatting systems you might see on places such as internet forums or wikis. In Markdown, tabs cause the following text to be displayed in grey quote boxes (which also makes it so that placing paragraph breaks seem to have no effect). If you get rid of the tabs, the text that follows will display normally.
- This is how formatting paragraphs works in Ensemble: pressing enter once will get you a line break. Pressing enter twice gives you another line break, so that you have a blank space between paragraphs. Pressing enter three times actually causes a new "scene" to appear, which allows you to create those boxes on the right-hand side to ask questions to your audience about the scene.
I know this probably means that Ensemble's formatting doesn't currently work the way you want/expect, but does that help clear up what Ensemble is doing and how to undo it?
Happy to help further if needed. (Also, if there are any formatting things that you think should absolutely be included in Ensemble, let us know!)
